Here is a great opportunity to plunge into the world of Winslow Homer in Portland, Maine, on September 25, 2026. The AHPCS is offering a visit to the Portland Museum of Art’s exhibit: Winslow Homer: Painter, Etcher – the first major exhibition devoted to Winslow Homer’s monumental etchings.

Homer’s wood engravings from Harper’s Weekly may be familiar, however you can experience new scholarship on the artist’s rarer 1880s etchings while viewing these works in conversation with his iconic paintings and watercolors. 

In addition to this wonderful exhibit, we also have an opportunity to tour Homer’s studio at Prout’s Neck, which is managed by PMA. Note: the studio tour is currently full. Please join the waitlist to be notified if a spot opens up. The exhibit entry is open to a larger group.

Registration fee of $25 includes the Prout’s Neck tour and museum exhibit entry.

Prout’s Neck Tour: 10:30 am – 1:00 pm (waitlist only)

Exhibit timed-entry @ 1:30 pm (museum hours will be from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on the 25th)

Of note: Members of the AHPCS will have an opportunity to expand their visit to Portland as the AHPCS Regional Meeting at the Portland Museum of Art will coincide with the Ninth Biennial Symposium of the Association of Historians of American Art, taking place in Portland September 24-26, 2026. Registration for AHAA events can be found on the AHAA website. Please note that registration for AHAA events is separate from AHPCS registration.

Registration for the AHPCS Regional Meeting is open to all, including AHAA members, as well as guests, and the general public. Again, the tour of Homer’s Prout’s Neck Studio is now full.
