2025 Regional Meeting: Hill-Stead Museum, Farmington CT

The Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington, Connecticut, is known for the collection of French Impressionist paintings formed by Alfred Atmore Pope (1842-1913) and for the museum building itself, designed as a retirement home for her parents by Pope’s daughter, Theodate Pope Riddle (1867-1946), one of America’s first woman architects. This year, an exhibition explores the transformative influence of Japanese art and aesthetics on Western artists and collectors in the 19th and early 20th century. AHPCS members are invited on a special curator-led tour of the exhibition, followed by a brief tour of the house where additional Japanese artifacts from the collection are on view. Members will also have an opportunity to go behind the scenes for an update on independent curator Nancy Finlay’s research on Theodate Pope Riddle’s collection of American prints. Lunch will be available in Hill-Stead’s Makeshift Theater for an additional charge.
To register and reserve a place for the meeting, please email Nancy Finlay at nfinlay@outlook.com. The cost for the curator-led tour and behind-the-scenes program is $20 pp for adults, $18 pp for seniors. Lunch is an additional $20 pp. Pre-payment is required, and payment instructions will be provided by emailing Nancy.
The deadline for registration is April 7th.
