2024 Regional Meeting: Cincinnati Art Museum

On Saturday, November 2nd at 2:00 PM, AHPCS will host a tour of the exhibition George Bellows: American Life in Print at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Kristin Spangenberg, curator of prints at CAM and longtime member of AHPCS, will guide our group.
An Ohio native, Bellows was renowned as printmaker in lithography. In New York, he became a student of Robert Henri (1865–1929) and became the youngest elected member to the National Academy and later, a member of the Ashcan School of art.
His lithographs, made during the early part of the 20th century, captured the spirit and character of individuals, sporting, especially boxing, family members, and on the atrocities of World War I. In doing so, according to the Museum’s press release, Bellows “almost single-handedly elevating lithography to a fine art in the United States. The inherent flexibility of the process, its potential for drawing in vigorous strokes, and its richness of tone were well suited to his expressive…. style.”
With this exhibition, a new book by Kristin Spangenberg, titled the same as the exhibition: George Bellows (1882–1925) American Life in Print is available the Museum Bookstore for $55.00.
A complimentary lunch will be available to all visitors at the Museum Café at 12:30 PM. Please RSVP to Allen Bernard at abernard1011@gmail.com if you plan to attend the luncheon and this tour. There will be no charge for this event.
