2022 Regional Meeting: American Antiquarian Society

November 14, 2022 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm EST

A regional meeting of the American Historical Print Collectors Society will take place at the American Antiquarian Society in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Monday, November 14th. The program will include a behind-the-scenes tour led by Lauren Hewes, Vice President for Collections and former AHPCS president, and a presentation of collections highlights featuring recent acquisitions in the new Learning Lab. Members are invited to request items that they would like to see during this presentation and are welcome to stay on after lunch to spend additional time on their own doing research in the AAS Library.

The American Antiquarian Society is a library of American history and culture through 1876, which was founded in 1812 by Revolutionary War patriot and printer Isaiah Thomas. Its graphic arts collections are diverse and expansive, incorporating over 400,000 items. These include prints by Paul Revere and other colonial engravers; thousands of wood engravings and hundreds of wood blocks by Alexander Anderson; a complete set of Apollo Association and American Art Union prints; archives of original drawings and proofs by David Claypoole Johnston and Louis Maurer; and an extensive collection of chromolithographs published by Louis Prang. The Learning Lab is part of a 2019 addition to Antiquarian Hall, which also incorporates a state-of-the-art conservation studio and improved climate-controlled storage.

Please note that the meeting will be limited to the first ten participants to register.
